An uncommonly lovely Saturday called me to the Zoo - my first visit of 2010. It was so good to see some of the animals out enjoying the sunshine and temperatures in the 50s F ( 11-ish C).

Red-ruffed Lemur: 'Ahhhh, there's nothing like the feeling of sun on your face, is there?'

Red-flanked Duiker: 'You said it, Mr. Lemur, Sir! I'm getting started on my tan.'

Chilean Flamingos: 'Whee! This is our Happy Dance!
The sun reminds us of South America, our home and native land.'

Baby Gorilla (Uzuuma) 'So that's a 'sun' is it? I think I forgot
what it looked like. I'm just little, you know.'

Uzuuma: '...so you see,Mr. Plant - that bright thing in the sky is called The Sun...'

Sun Bear: 'Don't bother me - I'm looking for my sunglasses. It's been so long
since I wore them that I can't remember where on earth I put them. Grrrrrr.'

Baby Snow Leopard (Batu): 'I found the bestest, warmest, nicest spot in the Zoo. I love it.'

African Lion (Hubert): 'This is more like it! A guy gets tired of running around trying to keep warm.'

Hippos: 'As for us - we've got it made in the shade.'

Indian Elephants: 'Hey, wanna do the Pushme-Pullyou act for the tourists?' 'Yeah sure, why not.'

African Elephant: 'What makes you think I'm the Old Guy? I've just lost a lot of weight, that's all.'

Indian Elephant: 'Sorry guys, can't play right now. It's my turn to wash down the patio.'

Tapirs: 'All this nice sunshine and you've got your nose buried in a plant? What's wrong with you?'

Snowy Owl: 'Okay, one picture. This is my good side.'
