Bird Life At Ballard Locks

January 24, 2008
Sharon and I had great fun watching the bird life at the Ballard Locks today. Rafts of Barrow's Goldeneyes and a number of Common Mergansers raced back and forth across the water. Two gangs of Canada Geese took turns taunting each other, reminding us of Sharks vs Jets battles. Cormorants lazily dipped and dived in the water, then stood on the light posts, spreading their wings. We also saw Great Blue Herons and a pretty little Belted Kingfisher. It was a beautiful day.

And a Great Blue Heron quietly watches everything.

The pictures were taken with my little 'backup' Panasonic Lumix camera, in most cases from a great distance away. I am quite pleased with them.
