What a beautiful weekend it's been, here in the Emerald City.
Tim and I decided to take our lunch to Golden Gardens Park,
on Shilshole Bay today. It was bright and clear, and very
blustery down by the water and it was so nice to be out in
the fresh air. A picnic in February! Imagine that!

The tide was
in, and we found a bench near the water's edge looking across at
the Olympic Mountains. As nice as it was, it was pretty chilly here,
but the view was worth it. |
|
I am eating
a ham and camembert cheese on sweet potato and pecan bread sandwich.
Tim had his
favorite turkey on rosemary bread. We treated ourselves to these
gourmet sandwiches from our local (and superb) Ken's Market.

|
A number of
folks had taken advantage of the beautiful day to go out for a sail.
We also watched a woman try (unsuccessfully) to launch her kite. |
|
Tim has a profound
conversation with a log at the edge of the water while the waves
crash in around him. |
|
After lunch,
we stood on a small bridge and watched rafts of ducks swim back
and forth, hoping for handouts.
Here is an
American Wigeon. Wigeons make a wonderful little whistling "whee,
whee, whew" sound which makes me smile.
|
|
The boisterous
quacking of a number of mallards drowned out the little Wigeon sounds. |
|
Nearby in the
bushes, a couple of Red-winged Blackbirds called loudly. They didn't
sit still for long. |
|
Bushes of
Oregon Grape grew beside the pathway, and shone brightly in the
sunshine.
It was a lovely
break in the day for us and we enjoyed it very much.
