Today was probably the nicest day of the year so far. Tim and I headed down to the Seattle waterfront for a visit to the recently renovated Seattle Aquarium. It was a very popular destination today, and taking pictures was a challenge.

It truly was a picture-perfect day.

For the first time, I noticed the World Trade Center!

The Seattle Aquarium is located on Pier 59 on the Seattle waterfront.

Large exhibit pools show examples of tidepool life.

An octopus was squished up into the corner of his exhibit.

Colorful fish darted amongst the coral and anemones.

Watching this was mesmerizing.

Larger tanks contained many varieties of larger fish.

This was some sort of a blowfish, I think.

Outside were several varieties of birds, like this Long-billed Curlew

and a Marbled Godwit.

A number of Tufted Puffins swam and lazed in the sand.

The Sea Otters were adorable (but very difficult to photograph).

A Harbor Seal showed off for the audience.

Back inside, more water beauties are revealed.

As we left, I noticed this striking, larger-than-life bronze abstract statue of Christopher Columbus. It was presented to Seattle by the Italian community in 1978 'In the Spirit of all voyagers on the unknown Sea is dedicated this symbol of the discoverer of America.'

A fireboat was practicing some maneuvers, so I watched that for a while.

With a last look at the beautiful Olympic Mountains, across the Bay, we headed for home.
