SURPRISE!

February 26 , 2011
Today Tim and I drove down the ridge to Ballard, the next 'town' within Seattle. As often happens, we found ourselves on an unfamiliar street. Just a regular, ordinary sidestreet.

Suddenly, wait! What? Huh? Sculptures! Six or seven of them brightened a corner. Needing no prompt, Tim turned the car around and parked.

I couldn't see a name on the building anywhere. It definitely gave off an 'arty' vibe.

A life-sized horse made of what looked to be recycled iron stared at passing motorists.

I think this is a wooden sculpture, with tiny little lights wired in.

A seahorse(?) also watched the cars go by.

Looks like the Easter Bunny is getting ready. Love his tail!.

Two fine fellows bracketed the shop doorway.

When the moon is full, I bet these two make wonderful music together..

In the window behind the horn player was a tiny sign which said Blowing Sands and gave the business hours. It's a gallery and glass blowing studio. I couldn't help but wonder if some of my recent 'found glass' had come from here. Sadly it was closed so I couldn't go in and ask.

I end with one more shot of the regular, ordinary sidestreet. Seriously, what a treat to find these well-hidden gems today. I think they might be the art of Daniel Lennert who works with recycled iron and has a permanent display near Mount Rainier National Park.
