The Museum of Glass in Tacoma, south of Seattle was today's destination. For years we'd meant to visit, hearing raves from others. Off we went with our cameras. I could hardly wait, as the current exhibitions looked spectacular on the website.

The Museum of Glass appeared oddly bland on this dull and cloudy day.

On the rooftop plaza was a reflecting pool.

When we entered the building, oh no!! There were prominent signs saying NO PHOTOGRAPHY except in the Hot Shop and Gift Shop. I was so disappointed I could have wept.

We headed straight to the Hot Shop to watch a demonstration of glass blowing because I overheard a guide say that a large group of Boy Scouts had reserved the area at noon. Eeek!

Down in the bottom of an amphitheater, John R Miller and his group of glass blowers were working on a project. It was very hot in there, even for us up on the balcony.

We missed the beginning so I don't know what the folks were making here, but it was big! And heavy!

It was interesting to watch. The black pieces are to keep the heat away from his hands..

Along a balcony were displays of some of the glass made in the Hot Shop.

Although a few designs are painted, many of them are made of the blown glass.

At this point we toured the current exhibitions and oh, they were spectacular. I was frustrated to tears at not being able to record them with my camera. These were my favorites. (clickable links)

In desperation I started snapping away in the Gift Shop. I bet these are pretty in the sunshine.

Many (not all) of the items for sale are made on site or by local artists.
