I made myself get out for a walk before my meeting today.
It was nice to see that the Spring flowers were progressing
as well as could be expected, thanks to the lack of sunlight. |
How
can you not smile at a bright display like this?
Here's
another bunch, with the sunshine shining through their petals.
A
Magnolia tree stretched its blooms towards the sky.
The
streets were lined with blossoming apple trees. They smelled wonderful.
A
little bed of pansies watched me as I strolled by.
Here
and there were bright splashes of hyacinths.
The
Phlox plants were looking pretty spiffy today.
Even
a few tulips had poked out of the earth to see what's up.
I
always enjoy the variety of lawn decorations.
I
included this photo to show how the pretty, small streets where
I live are beginning to change. Here are three houses in a row.
You can barely see the one on the left.
On
the left is probably an original house. Most likely it is well over
50 years old, maybe even 100. Perhaps an owner sold half the lot
and you can guess what went up. Yup, a Skinny House.
To the right
of the Skinny House, the original house was razed and a Monster
Home went up in its place. These three houses all have a view
of the Olympic Mountains, so they are premium property.
Sometimes
I feel nostalgic for the tiny, cozy cottages and small, quaint
houses. But I guess if I could afford it, I'd probably love to
live in this area. If it came down to a choice of spending a fortune,
trying to fix up a very old and tired, tiny place or building
a new home on the lot, I'd probably opt for the latter. I'd build
a cross between the Skinny and the Monster. Bigger is not always
better, especially when it blocks the view that the neighbors
behind used to have. ;-)
