Native Plant Appreciation Week

April 28, 2007
'Native Plant Appreciation Week is a celebration of the amazing diversity of Washington’s over 3000 native plant species that inhabit deserts, rain forests, high alpine environments, river valleys, and even backyard landscapes.'

In honor of Native Plant Appreciation week, (which doesn't start until tomorrow) Tim and I visited Mima Mounds, south of the State Capital of Olympia. We hiked a couple of miles on a pretty day and took pictures of lots of wildflowers.

Later we meandered north along country roads and stopped at Tolmie State Park for lunch.

Here's Tim, checking out the Mounds.
Mima Mounds, a Prairie grassland region, are situated on stratified glacial outwash left by the last Ice Age
The Common Camas is a blue lily with flowers of 1 1/2" - 2 1/2 ".
Tiny Buttercups dotted the fields, glowing in the sunshine.
Desert Parsley brightened the mounds as well.
This was a tiny flower on a ground cover which also had red berries.
Clumps of small Blue Violets peeped out here and there.
Here and there we found some deep pink Shooting Stars.
