My friend Matthew and I spent a couple of hours at the Zoo today. It was fun to watch the new giraffes, aged 11 months and 14 months, trying to learn how to cross the path to the field. We caught a glimpse of the new baby tiger, and enjoyed watching the animals' antics.

Hey! Can someone please give me a hand here?
I'm just a three pound weakling, ya know!

I wanna get down and grab some grub.
But if I get down, I just know my bro will grab my perch.
What to do? What to do?

A meeting of the minds.
Okay, you distract him - I'll make a run for the food.

This is the eleven-month old giraffe, learning to cross the street.
He was very reluctant to follow the keeper and her treats.

All played out, Hadiah takes a nap.

And one of the Fennec Foxes has a big stretch.

'Okay, I am being patient but my stomach is grumbling.
Do you know where the Lunch Wagon is?' asks Melati.

'I see trees of green, and skies of blue. La-la-la.'

Waiting for the Lunch Wagon, part II.
The Humboldt Penguins are Hungry Penguins today.

That large collar on the Snow Leopard is an "advanced GPS-Argos satellite collar. It will provide multiple daily locations and critical data on snow leopard home-range size, movements, activity patterns, and human-snow leopard interactions." This was a test-run for the collar, to be used in the wild. Two Zoo workers were taking very detailed notes of every activity and logging the time as well.
