If it's cloudy, it must be Saturday. With most of Seattle heading South for the opening of the Boat Season, we took the road less travelled and went North to visit the Mountain Loop Road area. This is one of our favorite roads but sadly it's been closed for a year and a half because of flood damage. We decided to go as far as we could, and we drove along some forest service roads as well - bumpy but fun! We finished up with a ride along the Sauk River from Rockport to Concrete.

Here we are in the woods near Mountain Loop Road. Big Leaf Maples were sprouting all over the place.
Down the hill we scrambled and clambered, to a lookout just above the North Fork of the Sauk River. What's Tim setting up to take a picture of?
It's a beautiful waterfall. The water thundered over the rocks with an incredible force. You can't tell from this picture but the path was narrow, steep and rocky, and the rocks were wet and slippery. I had vertigo to the max!
Here's the view looking downstream from the waterfall.
Miles upstream, the water still crashed along at an incredible pace. We saw some folks white-water rafting and kayaking on this river.
A peaceful scene greeted us on our drive along the Concrete-Sauk Road. We'd hoped to see eagles here, but no such luck.
The yellow plant is Scotch Broom and it is literally everywhere! I know it's an unwanted weed, but it added such a lovely touch of bright color on this generally gloomy day. I thought it was beautiful.
