Pond Life
May 16, 2012

During today's walk I saw last week's goslings. I was amazed at the size of them. They looked like a juggernaut, tramping across the field to the pond. The little grebes I'd seen earlier in the week looked very, very tiny by comparison.

Last week's goslings looked like giants to Mama Grebe and her kids.

'C'mon kids. Hurry up! We're going on a trip.

'Hey! Wait up!' 'She must think we're Olympic swimmers.'

'Okay, we're safe on the Island. Get under the feathers, you two.'

'They can't see you if you're under the feathers.'

'Settle down. We're not going anywhere for a while!'

'Hey, where did those guys go? We wanted to play with them.'

'WILL you two SIT DOWN and BE QUIET!'

Time passes and a Killdeer announces 'All Clear'.

'Ma! Ma! What was that? Can we come out now? Huh? Huh?'

A Red-winged Blackbird whistles a second 'All Clear'.

'I heard that! We want to come out now, Ma. Pleeeeease?'

'Be patient, Little One. Learn a lesson. Take your time.'

'I'm off to look for lunch. See ya in a bit.'

'Well HA! She dumps us here and we don't even get a ride back to shore. Niiiice.'

'Might as well catch a few ZzZzZzZzZs before we make the trip too.'
