Here we go again - hiking in the rain. Tim has always wanted to see Wallace Falls so off we went to Wallace Falls State Park which features, among other things, three waterfalls, one of them (Middle Falls) cascading 265 feet.

As we found out, it also featured a 6 1/2 mile round trip hike with a 500 foot elevation gain. The hike was classified as "easy". Yeah, maybe if you are in your twenties and physically fit. ;-)

As with many trails here, the beginning is very inviting.
The rain was not so inviting, but I had my trusty cap and raincoat.
About 1/2 a mile in, the trail split into two.
To the left was the longer, allegedly easier Railroad Grade trail.
We decided to take the shorter Woody Trail. How hard could it be?
The odd fence is to keep out bikes.
Hmm, the path got narrower and steeper but it was well maintained.
Sometimes there were even steps and bridges.
Other times, it was difficult to see where the path was actually going..
It was important to keep your eyes downward in many places.
Good lord, it was steep and rocky in places.
When we reached this bridge over the North Fork of the Wallace River,
we knew we were getting close to our first destination -
the Lower Falls.
Dealing with the elevation gain was not easy.
Tim is a trouper but I was whining and grumbling.
At times I felt as if I was in the Enchanted Forest
and the trees were alive.
