Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden

June 8, 2008
In the absence of raindrops today, Tim and I paid a visit to the Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden, south of Seattle near SeaTac Airport. What a lovely little find it was! We spent a couple of hours wandering the flower-banked trails, the Japanese Garden, and Elda Behm's Paradise Garden where we enjoyed our lunch amidst the blossoms and shrubs.

The Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden covers 10.5 acres of display gardens, woodlands, and trails reclaimed from a suburban brownfield. Highlights of the currently developed 3 acres include the recently relocated Seike Japanese Garden, "Elda Behm's Paradise Garden", and many displays.

An open custom-made entry gate invited us inside.

The flower-lined paths looked most welcoming.

I didn't know where to look first. The sights and the sounds were amazing.

It's a treat for the eyes and the ears, to amble along the paths.

Elda Behm's Paradise Garden is a 35-year labor of love.
It was moved here in 2000, to save it from the expansion of SeaTac airport.

Here is one of the larger ponds, surrounded by colorful shrubs and plants.

The water lilies were beginning to bloom on the pond.

Next we found the Seike Japanese Garden, originally a memorial to Toll Seike, killed in WWII.
