Our planned short hike near Deception Falls didn't happen as the area was gated. No access. Phooey. We looked for a turnaround spot on the busy highway and found the Iron Goat Trail interpretive center nestled behind a parking lot lined with trees.

Despite despising history in High School, I found myself quite intrigued with the story behind the Iron Goat Trail. A short version of it is here. There were a number of hikes, most of which seemed well within our capabilities. We wavered between Twin Tunnels and the Windy Point Lookout and chose the latter.

Off we go, heading up the side of the mountain. This isn't so bad.

Star-flowered false Solomon's Seal's name is bigger than the plant is.

There were lots of Starflowers.

Here I am plodding up the path, watching out for tripping rocks.

Uh-oh. It's getting a little more challenging. There are lots of switchbacks.

Sheesh, another switchback. I am starting to get very tired.

Tim soldiers on ahead of me. At one point I sat down and told him I'd wait for him but after a short rest I managed to carry on...slowly.

A quarter of a mile to go, and it looks as if it's on flat ground. Yay!

Huh? The Toilet sign pointed to the edge of the cliff.
