The Center For Wooden Boats
Seattle, WA

June 21, 2008
Earlier this week Tim visited the Center for Wooden Boats on his lunch hour, taking a picture of a replica of The Niña, one of Christopher Columbus' boats. He was amazed how tiny it was. On Saturday we headed down to the Wooden Boat Center so I could have a look too.

We've driven past the Center, at the south end of Lake Union many times. This was my first visit, and how nice it was! Later we headed to Golden Gardens for lunch. I was able to do a bit of poking in the rocky pools as the tide was quite far out.

Here's the Niña, loading up with tourists. We never did get on the boat - too crowded.

This is to show the scale. Imagine this little boat crossing the Atlantic during stormy weather!

The Arthur Foss is one of the oldest tugboats in existence.

We toured the Arthur Foss. I decided I am much too big to work on a tugboat!
Here is part of the crew's quarters. I could barely turn around in the room

The Captain's area seems more spacious.
The bunk is wider, and the room is brighter.

Built in 1909, the Fireboat Duwamish was in service for 75 years!

Many sailboats were moored at the docks.

Here's a spiffy-looking Paddle Boat.
