A Visit With Mother
Mount Rainier, WA

June 27, 2009
Mount Rainier is affectionately known by many in these parts as 'Mother'. A currently dormant volcano, she towers over the surrounding landscape, visible for more than a hundred miles on a clear day. Today was one of those days so Tim and I headed South to pay her a visit.

Can you tell that I am so happy to be here in the mountains once again?

Here's the view from the first lookout. We're on the mountain but a couple of miles away from the peak.

Up a narrow winding road we went, to Paradise. A new Visitor's Center was built here last year.

What a view from inside the Center!

The upper floor has a Gift Shop and a number of exhibits like this Hoary Marmot.

Here's part of another exibit.

A large table holds a scale model of Mount Rainier. The press of a button lights up various locations.

Onward we went, heading for Reflection Lake.

Tim's enjoying himself as well.

Today's picnic spot is spectacular. It's the shore of Reflection Lake.
