Today promised to be hot so I set off for the Zoo early. It was heading for 80°F as I got there, and warmer still when I left an hour later. I wasn't early enough for the animals who perhaps had become acclimatized to Seattle's generally cooler, damper weather. They seemed to have retreated to shady nooks, or back inside their buildings.

Nine-thirty in the morning and it's already too hot for the Red Pandas to move.

'Hah - sit in the shade, they said. What shade? Where's the leaves?'

Hope nobody spots my shady place. It's got berries!! Woohoo!

Hot concrete. Whatta bed! How about putting up a nice tent with a fan?

Oh great! Finally they give me someone to play with and all he does is sleep.'

I suppose we should head for the shade. Ready? On the count of three...one...two...ZzZzZzZzzzz.

A dunk in the pond beats a nap in the shade any day of the week.

Dunno what everyone's whining about. It's nice and cool up here.

If we keep really still, the tourists will think that they are seeing double.

A stinking hot summer day and what do they do?
They close my elephant barn for renovations.
You know, the nice cool building with that lovely water to drink.

I think I'll eat my cookies out here in the hot sun. I bet I won't have to share them.

Me, I have it made in the shade.

Me too. Nothing like a cool damp cave for comfort on a hot summer's day.
