Deception Falls and Beckler River Road

On a hazy, hot Saturday we took a ride eastward along Route 2, heading for Deception Falls near Stevens Pass. Along the way we explored the Index-Galena road, finding in most cases the side roads we wanted to follow were closed by washouts or other damage.

At Deception Falls we enjoyed the Loop Hike and a picnic. On the way home we took a side trip up Beckler River Road (also closed eventually) and along another sideroad. It was still hot and hazy when we returned home, but it was good to get away for a bit.

The first thing I saw on the Loop Hike at Deception Falls was a most huggable tree.

Following the trail, we criss-crossed the Tye River several times during the hike.

There's always a fun-gi or two in this neck of the woods.

Oh-HO! Here's another fun-gi!
From time to time we clambered down to sit beside the rushing Tye River.

Whaddya mean, you dare me to jump in? I don't think so.

Here's the lower half of Deception Falls.
The bridge has a see-through mesh floor which I don't like much at all! :D

Ready for lunch? We decided to picnic here at the Falls.

We were happy to see Monte Cristo peeking over the trees on the Beckler River road.

I loved the nearby meadows too. As always, I searched for mountain goats to no avail.

The roadsides were colorful and bright in places .

Not sure why I keep photographing thistles - I like them, I guess.

I cannot do this little road justice. It's shaded by hundreds and hundreds of birch trees, and really lovely.
