Tim and I took a ride in the brilliant sunshine today. We headed south to Chinook Pass, over the mountains into Eastern Washington, then home again via White Pass. It was a long day, and lovely to see the amazing landscapes on the other side of the Cascade Mountains.
Here's our first clear look at Mount Rainier as we approach Chinook Pass. Camera Note: the blinding conditions today were a bit more difficult for me, as I had some oversaturation. That's something for me to work on.

There weren't many places to stop along the side of the road as we climbed to the Pass.

Here's little Lake Tipsoo, still snowed under, with a sign warning everyone it's not safe.

Near the lake were some pretty wildflowers. the Glacier Lily was a new one for me.

Across the road, Mount Rainier peeped over the mountain range.

Here's the top of Chinook Pass as we look eastward.

I'm looking down over the edge here, at the bunches of Cliff Penstemon flowers clinging to the rocks.

A number of Clark's Nutcrackers wandered around looking for handouts.

Lunch spot was at Bumping Lake, which was being well used by swimmers and boaters today.

As we descended into Eastern Washington the landscape began to change.

You could almost feel the heat, just looking at the hills.

Along the roadsides grow bushes of sage.

It's such a change from 'our side' of the mountains.

Large rock formations also tower over the roadway.

Tim and I couldn't help laughing at this sign outside a roaside store/diner.

For a while we drove along beside lovely Rimrock Lake.

Then through White Pass we went, with Mount Rainier greeting us as we returned to Western Washington.

It was a long and interesting day.
