I've enjoyed watching this small family of California Quail who live near the Duckpond on the North Creek Trail. Sadly the little family has dwindled from 7 to 4 but, as I'm learning, survival of the fittest is the rule around here.

Here are some pictures I took last Saturday. Mama Quail eventually allowed me to come within 3 feet of her and her three babies.

Oh hello. It's you again. Nice day, isn't it?

I'm having a good hair day. Please admire!

I'm also giving foraging lessons to my three babies.

Hey! Kids! Over here! Now, please!

That's it. Get your heads down close to the ground.

Like this, Ma?

And don't be afraid to look in things or under things.

Dang! Now my feathers are all ruffled!

That's better. We are pretty sharply-dressed birds and don't you forget it!

Oh and remember this. Take time to smell (and eat) the flowers.

Ma, is this a flower?

Rule Number 1 - always be aware of your surroundings.
That is a dog you can hear. So let's boogie, kids. Giddyap!
