On a clear, sunny Saturday we meandered 22 miles along the bumpy, one-lane Cascade River Road to gaze at the mountains. The road had recently reopened, as winter storms caused several washouts which needed repairs.

I was experimenting with a polarizing filter. I need more practice. :| Afterwards, we drove along the North Cascades Highway, to stop at the Skagit General Store for some fudge (a tradition) and to check out Lake Diablo.

The first viewpoint on the Cascade River Road gave us a peek at a peak.

Near the end of the road we came upon meadows and more mountains.

Some mountains were really craggy with no vegetation.

Here's the lunch spot, at the end of the road.

I took this one looking right into the sun.

There were trees and mountains all around us - lovely!

Driving back down the road we had a different view of the meadows.

We took a detour along the North Cascades Highway as far as Lake Diablo.

The lake truly is that color. It was beautiful.

And lastly, a sign of things to come.
