September 11, 2010

Ooops, I forgot it was Zoo Appreciation Day and found myself in an ocean of people. Most of the activities were children-oriented, and the kids were having a ball. I wandered around a few areas that I don't often visit.

A Siamang sits quietly at the edge of the stream, exercising his neck pouch. Yodelling soon?

At last I have a very brief and cluttered glimpse of the 2-Toed Sloth as he swings along towards his den at the back of the display.

I have to keep Zelda under control as she wants to push all the people out of the way to see this dear little soul. Patience, Grasshopper.

Next door one of the Komodo Dragons is uncharacteristically active. Oh my gosh, they can move quickly, despite their size and ponderous appearance.

He came right up near the window.

Not much was happening on the African Savannah today, except for one Patas Monkey watching the crowds.

A Speckled Mousebird eats his morning orange.

I watched the African birds being fed today. What a gorgeous one this is. It's a Golden-breasted Starling, often called the most beautiful starling in the world.

Here's a Blue-bellied Roller having a bad hair day.

A Macaque talks to the trees, and wonders why they never answer.

Ahhh, the burlap sack - a blanket, a sunshade, a raincover, a haven from the tourists...the orangutan's best friend

'Buh-bye!' calls Melati. Come again soon!
