September 13, 2008
Both of us had busy weeks, so today we took a jaunt up to Lake Elizabeth, enticed by the fact that the hiking trail around the lake was only 3/4 of a mile, advertised as 'easy hiking for families with small children and senior citizens.' Yep, that was just the ticket for this beautiful September day. Things are not always what they seem.

At 2900 feet, Lake Elizabeth is a borderline high elevation lake. The road leading into it has been closed since 2006, due to slides and storm debris. It's pretty bumpy!

We ventured this far, then heeded the warning of the sound of spinning tires from another explorer and headed straight for Lake Elizabeth.

The roadside was dotted with very colorful flowers and berries.

Our valiant leader searches for the hidden trail to the lake.

And there it is, glowing in the mid-morning sunshine.

Ahhhh yes. Just as promised, the path was wide and clear, easy to hike. I love it when I don't have to spend all my time looking at the ground.

I thought I saw the shadow of Bigfoot the Sasquatch at one point.

So far so good. It's a pretty, relaxing hike.

There were even some pretty Autumn colors.
