Autumn at Cascade Pass

September 30 , 2006
Today Tim and I decided to revisit the lovely Cascade Pass, curious to see if the Autumn colors had made an appearance yet. They had, and although they're not as spectacular as last week's display at Heather Meadows, they were nonetheless pretty.

Once we began the climb up to the Pass, there were bright splashes of gold and red amongst the evergreens.

Ground cover on the hillsides was just beginning to show a tinge of rust and orange.

As we drove along, we occasionally caught a glimpse of the rocky mountains, rising from fall-colored foliage.

Brightly-colored leaves on these trees provided an attractive foreground for the mountains beyond.

Here and there, the evergreen hills became tall, rocky mountains, and remainders of snow caps were still to be seen.

Here's our lunch spot of the day. It was pretty here, and surprisingly VERY hot!

The way down provided just as many striking and colorful scenes.

Little waterfalls burbled beside the road.

In Marblemount, we caught up with this funny little bus.

A little further along, we chuckled at these lawn ornaments. The Yeti must have been at least ten feet tall.

As we approached Arlington, Tim spotted two Bald Eagles in a tree beside the road. Despite my best efforts at sneaking along quietly, this was as close as I could get, and they took off.

I love this Espresso stand! It's in Arlington, near the on-ramp to the I-5. It makes me smile.

So that was our day. It was relaxing and quiet, and thoroughly enjoyable, and although the colors aren't much compared to those back East, they're still a pretty flag signalling the changing of the season.
