Searching For Autumn In The Cascades

October 8, 2011
On a non-rainy Saturday we drove up to Cascade Pass looking for Autumn, which is considerably different from Autumn in the East. It's often a symphony of greens, golds and browns with a bit of red thrown in randomly here and there.

Nevertheless, the roads through the woods are lovely and bright.

Occasionally there is a glimpse of a mountain.

Mountain meadows sometimes provide a bit of color.

Here and there is a flash of red.

Some meadows are beginning to change color now.

Others still have remainders of glaciers and snow caves.

Many leaves simply fade from green to yellow.

It was ferociously windy at Cascade Pass so we ate lunch in the car.

A couple of cowbirds were buffetted around by the cold winds.

The mountains are always beautiful, whatever the season.

With a final glance, down the hill we went.

See you next Summer, Cascade River Road!
