October 11 , 2006
It seems like aeons since I visited my favorite haunt, so off I went today. It was cool and sunny and not very crowded at all (yay!). Ah yes, now I remember. When it's cool, the animals tend to stay inside their buildings instead of frolicking outdoors for the tourists. Still, I managed to photograph a few who ventured outside.

After I struck out with the Red Pandas, a Japanese Serow allowed me to take a picture of him.

It was a nice day to amble through the Aviary. Here's a Demoiselle Crane.

A beautifully-colored Wood Duck drifted in the still pond.

In another pen, a Tundra Swan foraged for food at the edge of the water.

I got a gazillion pictures of this Red-ruffed Lemur today. He was so funny.

When I snapped the gorilla on the left, I didn't even notice Nina the Mom behind him.

A younger gorilla sat wistfully at the top of a dead tree, staring off into the distance.

And old Vip sat right next to the viewing window, munching away.

The Siamangs were in concert for ages. A keeper said they were practicing their routine.

Mr. Tiger was absolutely transfixed by the sound of a low-flying airplane.

His mate slept through the whole thing.

A couple of Sloth Bears made me quietly hum "The Teddy Bears' Picnic."

The King and his wife share a quiet moment.

And then he settles down for a nap.
Sounds like a plan. ;-)
