Sunday Drive: Country Roads In Autumn

October 17, 2010
I think we've missed the best of the Autumn colors in our usual haunts. Wet weather and/or previous commitments took care of that. We'll try again next year. No matter, it's always fun to get out in the mountains which are often snowed in by mid-October. Silver linings.

A herd of 40 or 50 Elk grazed in a field off Highway 20, about 400 yards away from us.

Woo-eee, look at these two lads, showing off their fine antlers.

Some color still remained on Cascade River Road.

Last year's snow is still around too.

Meadows which usually turn red and orange had faded to brown by now.

The waterfalls along the road had pretty well dried up.

Last night's frost made beautiful tracings on many leaves located on the shade.

A small hornets' nest dangled from a branch above my head.

A bit of color remained at Monte Cristo Lake, off the Mountain Loop Highway.

Afternoon sunshine.

Living the dream. :D.
