Located on the north slope of Cougar Mountain is the
tiny Cougar
Mountain Zoo, established in 1972. Many of the
Zoo animals have been born or raised at the Zoo and
are quite comfortable with humans. Animals and birds
represented here are cougars, reindeer, cranes, antelopes,
macaws, emus, lemurs and alpacas. Here are some pictures
of our trip.

The
Zoo is fifteen miles east of Seattle, so we were there
in no time. It was a cool, damp morning. |
|
The
first thing we saw as we entered the gate was a huge cougar
cage. A couple of cougars were visible behind wire fencing.
It's a shame there wasn't a place to photograph them without
the fencing but c'est la vie. |
|
Looking
like his smaller relatives, this fellow was stretching
and preening. |
|
He
also gave himself a good bath before he stood up, stretched,
climbed down from his perch and paced around the perimeter
of the cage, growling all the way. |
|
Here's
a closeup of him. I was quite lucky to get these three
pictures as I was trying to photograph between the bars. |
|
Most
of the time it was just not possible to take a picture.
Here is a black and white lemur through the chain link
fence. The other lemur cages had fence AND bars, so I
didn't even try. Gosh they were noisy today - it was great! |
|
The
Zoo is also known for its very large collection of bronze
animals. Here is Tim teasing a rhino. |
|
The
statues are everywhere, and some are very lifelike. |
