Woodland
Park Zoo

Despite the
weatherman's prediction of rain, it was a lovely, if cool, day
today so I took advantage of the nice weather and headed for the
Zoo.
A gorilla
took advantage of the sunny day to climb to the top of his tree
and survey the landscape.
The young
gorillas were very active this afternoon.
|
|
The older
folks though - well - they took advantage of the time to take
naps, like old Pete here.
"Not
now dear, I have a headache!"
|
|
Another
gorilla relaxed after lunch, feet up on a rock, looking oh so comfy. |
|
Melati
sat by the window today, gazing at her onlookers. She didn't move
the whole time I was there. |
|
Heran
had taken possession of the hammock and was lazily finishing a snack. |
|
Here is Lazarus,
the largest lion-tailed macaque. A very nice Zoo employee told
me his history. When he was born, he was found "dead"
on the floor. Luckily, the handlers were able to bring him back
to life, hence the name Lazarus.
He was sitting
up high near the heaters as it was a chilly day.

|
The
Sloth Bears, however, were having fun up in the tree, growling playfully
at each other and now and again trying out a wrestling hold. |
|
Again
I got lucky with the two little Red Pandas. I enjoyed watching them
clamber around in the trees. |
|
This
one watched his pal carefully, and when they were together, they
seemed to get along beautifully which I am sure is good news for
the Zoo folks, as they are hoping there will be Panda Babies one
day. |
|
After
a cursory glance, a giraffe returned to his foraging amongst the
leaves. |
|
The
young tigers paced around fitfully today. In the background, I could
hear the father tiger roaring, wherever he was, and I wondered if
it was upsetting the babies. |
|
One
of the jaguars paced restlessly around his enclosure, following
the same circular route time after time after time. |
|
The
hippos were funny today. Mostly they stayed underwater while I was
there but every so often one or more would surface with a great
many snorts and snuffles. |
|
One of them
kept yawning. Must be nap time.
The Zoo was
surprisingly uncrowded for such a lovely day, and I'm glad I went.
