'Eagles come in all shapes and sizes, but you will recognize them chiefly by their attitudes.' ~ E. F. Schumacher

Today it did not rain, so we took off for the north on an eagle-seeking expedition. Our favorite places yielded only a small count, but by the end of the day we had seen more than forty of these magnificent birds.

The best part was being out in the fresh air (I did not have to put on my coat once!) and the sunshine.

On the way we spotted a number of Tundra Swans.

They were browsing in the low-cut farmers' fields beside the highway.

Our first stop was our favorite lookout, beside the north fork of the Nooksack river.

One lonely Bald Eagle greeted us with a look of suspicion. 'What? You again?'

While we were looking at him, another flew past.

And whee, following him was a beautiful Great Blue Heron.

I love watching eagles in flight.

Further down the Mount Baker Highway are our Eagle Trees.
They did not disappoint, as there were more than 17 eagles sitting in three trees.
This is the most populated one. A slightly larger picture is ( here )

By now it was lunchtime and here we are at ( Deming Homestead Eagle Park ).

Nice place for lunch.

Evergreens were a backdrop for little red berries, some of which looked very frost-burned.

'Ahhh, lunch with the eagles. What could be better?' says Tim.

I was able to snap an immature Bald Eagle in flight there.

I also found the frosted evergreens very pretty. You could definitely spot the frost line on the hills around.

It was a lovely day to be out enjoying the beauties of the countryside.
