When I looked out of the window this morning I saw no snow, no slush and no rain. I really needed some exercise after being rather housebound with the recent sub-freezing temperatures and strange weather so off I went to the duck pond.

A small hawk warily watched my progress for a while. He seemed pretty nervous.

There were a large number of Buffleheads on the far side of the pond. This one ventured close enough for me to snap his picture. He looked so crisp and clean.

I was pleased to see the pretty little Pied-billed Grebe was back.

A gaggle of American Wigeons hung around the the west end of the pond, searching for food in the nearby grassy areas. Their funny whistling noises made me smile. [sound link]

There were still some large patches of ice floating on the pond, as this Mallard learned!

SPLASH! Hey! Where did the ice go? I wasn't ready for that!

Hahahahaha. Do it again! That looked pretty funny, Sonny.
