Head Shots
Saturday,
February 15th, 2014 Today I went to the Zoo simply for the exercise. The weather was cold and damp. The skies were dark. Eventually it rained. I was surprised that I got some good pictures. Here are nine. |
Oh
let a smile be your umbrella
Top spot goes
to Hubert. He was sacked out on his usual rock when a gentle rain began
falling. Slowly, eyes still closed, he turned his face up to the skies.
I swear that's a smile on his face. |
|
There will
be no more photos of Hubert. On February 17th, he and Kalisa are leaving
for the Los Angeles Zoo. He and Kalisa (not the cubs' mother) are a bonded
pair. I'm glad they are staying together. I'll miss this gentle couple of 14 year olds. I hope they enjoy the warmth and sunshine in California. |
Here's one of the jaguars lying in wait just above the pond. His sibling has just caught a rat and is enjoying a second breakfast, much to the enjoyment/disgust of the spectators. This one hopes to get lucky too. |
Hungry, hungry hippo? Hey, the twig is a treat, trust me! Most of the time this huge animal exists on a diet of 'grass hay, romaine lettuce trims, pellet feed and occasional treats, which include apples, carrots and seasonal pasture grazing'. I find that ludicrously amazing. |
'Ooooooh, ooooh - yes! That's the spot! Right there! Oh dear, what will I do when all you kids are gone? Who will scratch my back then?' |
'Burp!' Oh excuse me! I didn't know you were there. The older I get, the more gas I get from these veggies. I sure would like a nice plate of fries one of these days. |
I know what you're looking at. I can't help it. My hair goes crazy in this humidity. Talk about frizzy! I wish they'd hire an on-site hairdresser. |
Peek-a-boo. I can't see you! One of the snow leopards (who were both born with congenital eye defects and vision in their left eyes only) teases the spectators at the window. |
