On an early-morning trip to the Duckpond I was very pleased to see a Canada Goose family - Mum, Dad and 5 goslings. Although Dad tried to look menacing, he allowed me to hang around for ages. What a treat.

Here are Mum and 4 of the 5 kids, resting at the water's edge.

Dad (and a kid) are on patrol not far away, keeping their world safe.

All five goslings are intent on one thing - eating!

They spend a lot of time studying the ground.

'Do you think there will be any bread crumbs coming our way today?'

'I dunno, but let's watch for them. It's easier than digging through that grass stuff.'

'I'm just going to sit here and look cute. Maybe someone will feed me.'

Sometimes Ma tries to get everyone to have a rest.

'I'm not tired. Are you?' 'Nope!' 'Me neither! Let's go to the water.'

'Which way is the water? Should we ask Dad?'

'Dad - we aren't tired. Please may we go swimming?'

'Ma, Ma, Ma! Dad said we can go swimming!'

'Okay let's go. Hissssssssssssssssssss! Watch out for strangers!'

'Aaaaah, this is the life. Sun, food and water. Is there anything better than that?'

'Okay kids - line up now.'

'One - two - three - four - five - all here. Let's boogie!'

And off they went.
