On a warm and hazy morning Tim and I headed north. Our first stop was to be Rockport State Park, 'a 670-acre park in an ancient forest. The old growth was never logged, and the entire ecosystem remains in place, creating a rare, natural forest with a canopy so dense that minimal sunlight penetrates to the ground.' [link]

We drove along Cook Road and highway 20, beside the Cascade foothills.

There is no more camping in Rockport Park so we practically had the place to ourselves.

Oh boy - trees to hug!

And bridges to cross.

Small mushrooms peeped from the undergrowth.

I loved this one.

All over the place were these Leaf Skeletons, ready for Hallowe'en.

There were lots of what Tim and I call 'Big-assed Maple Leaves' here.

Hey, you! Smile!

Okay! You smile too.
