November 26, 2014
This week I've been able to follow up on a few of the babies I photographed earlier this year.

First was the multi-colored duck family. They stood out from the rest of the ducklings because of their unique coloring.

The Ducks

There were 5 babies when I first saw them.

Three days later there were only 4. Oh dear.

Nowadays there are still 4. They're on their own but they still stick together. One of them kept her head in the reeds the whole time I was there.

Her sister let me take a solo shot of her. The three ladies look quite alike.

The third female has taken on the role of Town Crier. 'Quaaaaaack-quack-quack!'

Judging by the 4th duck's recent coloring, a Mallard Duck played a part in their beginnings.

Green Herons

In July we watched 4 fairly young Green Herons for a while. There always seemed to 3 together and 1 far apart, on his own. I called him The Introvert.

He'd eat alone.

Often he sat on the bank about 50 yards upstream from the others.

There's just one Green Heron left at the pond now and I believe it's The Introvert.

He lets me get within a few feet of him, and puts up with my gazillion photos.
He doesn't mind the noisy, nosy ducks either.
I hope he stays.
