December 26th, 2014

'Twas the day after Christmas and time for the crew
Of hardworking critters to clean up the Zoo.

The penguins were busy, and looking quite hard
For any stray gift wrappers left in their yard.

Some small Asian otters were using their teeth,
And their claws as they tried to get rid of their wreath.

Others were checking the branches up high
To see if more presents had dropped from the sky.

A meerkat kept watch to see no-one was slacking.
Once in a while saying 'Fellows! Get cracking!'

'My rock's always neat!' sniffed the small Patas monkey
'I just couldn't live in a home that was junky!'

Misawi and Dave paced around in their pen,
Wondering when they would be 'free' again.

As he passed a zebra, the ostrich said 'Listen -
I'm in a great hurry cuz I'm on a mission.'

'A mission?' asked zebra, but it was too late.
The ostrich was off with his long-legged gait.

He threw himself down and proceded to twitch,
And roll all around a large dry drainage ditch.

Who knows what he's doing, but may we make mention
That old Mr Ostrich just loves your attention?

'Oh really?' said Peacock. 'Well then, I won't look.
I'm now heading off for a drink at the brook.'

'Of course we're all working! We're taking a break!'
Indignant flamingos were not quite awake.

Nothing to see folks. Please move along. Run.
A lemur's so quick that my work is all done.

A jaguar shouts 'Please, leave my nice tree right here!
It's pretty and green and I'll keep it all year.

Calaya's pretending to do all the work.
'My sister can do it!' she says with a smirk.

Hey Ma, Ma! Calaya is being so mean.
She won't help me make our old grotto look clean.

Uzuuma, I'm sorry she's being a pest.
But I am too tired, so please do your best.

I finished so quickly, and now I'm all done.
I guess I'll find someone and we'll have some fun.

'Hey! Don't touch this tree or I'll show you my paws.
It's the favorite tree of my friend Santy Claws'

And say, Mrs Lady didja bring me a treat?
No? Aww gee whiz, I would love some nice meat.

I've cleaned out my nest full of junk - what a mess.
I'd say that my morning has been a success.

I'm not letting go of my tree decoration.
It belongs here beside me for our hibernation.

I'm glad that it's over! It's stressful I fear
To be Santa Claus' number one back-up Lead Deer.

Happy New Year to everyone.
See you in 2015.
