It's been a wet week. The pond's water level is the highest it's been for a long time. Not many birds have been around lately - just the regulars. Some are getting more vocal, with the melodies of the Song Sparrows and Red-winged Blackbirds making it sound like Spring.

Here's my annual picture of a Song Sparrow singing his heart out.

A male Bufflehead cruised up and down by himself this morning.

Enjoying one of the smaller ponds was a striking Hooded Merganser

His ladyfriend coasted up and down nearby.

I'm fascinated with how quickly they can change the shapes of their crests.

The Green Heron was happy to share his pond with such an entertaining couple.

Yesterday a Cooper's Hawk (?) followed my progress.

A Pied-billed Grebe let me get quite close before he dove out of sight, under the water.

A Spotted Towhee was taste-testing the dried berries.

Avoiding the deep pond water, a Great Blue Heron fishes in a nearby marshy area.

And that's it for this week.
