It's
been a gray, damp weekend here. On Sunday morning we took
an impromptu trip south into Seattle to visit an old favorite
spot of ours - Ballard
Locks.
- The
Good: it was lovely to reconnect with the wildlife,
particularly the Great Blue Herons.
- The
Bad: after a while down came the rain.
- The
Ugly: Seattle traffic. Ugh! How soon we forget.
- More
Good: we finished with fish and chips from one of
our former favorite Seattle spots -
Little Chinooks at the Fishermen's Terminal.

Hiya Mr Kingfisher! You're not as shy as your Northern cousins,
it seems.
Rafts of Barrow's Goldeneyes swam along in great formations.
Since the females far outnumbered the males, this guy has his
eye on a partner already.
Billions of wimmins and they both want the same one. Go figure.
A Great Blue Heron nonchalantly shows his fishing skills to the
tourists.
It ain't easy lookin' cool with an eel hangin' outta yer beak!
Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane...nope, it's a
bird! And he's carrying a twig.
Holy Herons, Batman! It's a Heronry - right beside the Ballard
Locks. These are only a few of the nests.
Ah-HA! I see mah sweetie coming in for a landing with twigs for
our nest.
Here ya go, hon. Let's see how this fits. There's plenty more
where this came from.
