Off we went to visit one of our favorite places in Washington State - the North Cascades Highway, known as the American Alps. Because of a low snowfall, the highway had an early opening so we were inspired to go for a short hike at Rainy Lake.

This is truly a Road Trip as most of today's pictures were taken through the car window.

We drove along Highway 20, through Marblemount and soon passed the entrance.

At first it was the same-old, same-old. Green, green trees.

Soon in the distance we saw the foothills.

The green trees gave way to rocks.

There are a couple of short tunnels on this two-lane highway.

As we went along, there were more Evergreen trees.

We passed one of the dams along the Skagit River.

Here we are going through the second tunnel.

Oh boy! Snow!

We stopped to take a look at beautiful Ross Lake.
Ususally, where the skyline dips, we can see Mount Hozomeen, near Canada.

Hooray - here come the big ones.
