Woodland Park Zoo
The Saturday before Christmas was very chilly with a threat of rain. Visitors were scarce and so were the animals. I wondered what the Zoo kids wanted for Christmas.

Flamingo: brrrrrr, it's chilly! Legwarmers please Santa.

Green Snake: a nice warm scarf for me, if you please. My scales are cold.

Golden Lion Tamarin Monkeys: we'd love some hair conditioner. Our manes are so flyaway in the winter. We asked for that last year but we got an air conditioner. :(

Toucan: how about a backscratcher for my buddy here. We'd BOTH like that!

Jaguar: oh man, this hay is itchy! I would love a big fluffy quilt Santa.

Zebras: speaking of hay, enough is enough. We would enjoy an apple or two for Christmas.

Hippo: what would I like? A water heater and some bubble bath!

Auntie Giraffe: Christmas cookies please. Sticks get old real fast.

Xerxes: I'd like to turn back the clock, Santa.

Adia: so would I. We had such fun.

Since my last visit there's been a change in the lions' den. The three boys are learning how to hunt now and they've been practicing on poor old Dad who does not like it one little bit. He has been forced to defend himself. Therefore it is no longer possible to have the lion family out on the Savannah all at the same time. Mum and Dad are out in the mornings and the three boys are out in the afternoons.

Sumatran Tiger: my two brothers and I would enjoy something finger-lickin' good.

Snow Leopard: I'd like someone to play with. It gets lonely sometimes.

Peacock: if I had a little scooter, I wouldn't have to run across the road all the time.

Wolf: I got my treat early, thanks - a fresh bone all to myself.

Here's the new baby gorilla, born on November 20th. Because the mother, Nadiri, is very slow to show any interest in the baby (who will be named in the New Year), she is being raised by hand. Reports indicate that things are going slowly in the right direction.

There are some wonderful photos of the baby and the latest report on the Zoo Blog. I shall look forward to seeing her in person next year.
