On Wednesday we visited the Nooksack River, hunting for our beloved Bald Eagles. We'd heard that there were great numbers of them this year, feasting on the carcasses of salmon who'd expired after mating. It was a cold and brilliantly sunny day, and quite possibly the best trip we'd ever had to the Nooksack River. Here are some pictures.

As we drove north on the I-5, the sunrise promised us a pretty day.

'Wassa matter? Haven't you ever seen an Iced Sheep before, lady?'

'Hey guys - they're here! Let's put on a show!'

An immature Bald Eagle performed some aerobatics for us.

One of the older eagles also did a Flyby.

Trees along the edge of the riverbank were laden with eagles.

So were the banks of the river, which were also full of salmon skeletons.

Many of the birds kept close guard on their choices.

Sometimes there were battles.

Mostly everyone just minded his own business.

Yes, there was plenty for everyone including loads of gulls.

'Hey - check out this wing span! Am I the champ or what?'
