To
paraphrase W.C Fields, 'Sometimes it aint a fit
day out for human or beast!' However, waiting for
a perfect Pacific Northwest Saturday in Winter could take
months, so out I went. It was cold, damp, misty and later
even sunny. Many of the animals stayed inside.

I
seemed to have arrived at breakfast time.
'A little privacy if you please!'
'This is the way we eat our hay, eat our hay, eat our hay...'
'Has she gone yet?' 'Nope - still there staring at us.'
The Hooded Cranes did a little exercising to warm up.
'Yikes, I hope I don't get frozen like this!'
A pretty Bar-headed Goose asked if he could join in too.
A couple of White-naped Cranes stretched before breakfast.
'Might as well take a bath. It's warmer under the water.'
'Don't forget to wash behind your ears!'
A Colorado River Toad glares at the visitors.
He can secrete a paralytic toxin from the lumps behind his eyes.
