On Saturday, September 14th, we decided to go north, since the weather promised to be ideal for driving up mountains and having good views. We left early, and headed first for Heather Meadows and Artist Point. I guess I had hoped that the autumn colors would be in full swing, but I think we were about a week too early.

After hiking along Wild Goose Trail, and having lunch, we decided to see where Glacier Creek Road would take us. It's located just outside the town of Glacier. It must be a very well-kept secret...not only was the road so decent that we didn't even need the four-wheel drive, but also the views at the various outlooks were no less than spectacular. We viewed Mount Baker clearly from a distance of about four and a half miles away.

Tim has made a panorama of the view from the top of Heather Meadows, at Artist Point that you can see by clicking HERE.
