We took advantage of the beautiful October weather and visited the north slopes of Mount Baker on Saturday, October 7th. Tim and Fraser Smith, a friend from England had driven this way in July, stopped at Heather Meadows by a wall of snow across the road. We, however, were able to make our way through Heather Meadow to Artist's Point, a wonderful lookout spot with glorious views of Mount Baker and Mount Shuksan, as well as breathtaking scenery on the way up and the way down. We figured we ascended to at least 7,000 feet.

Here is the route we took from Seattle. Tim guesses that it was about 155 miles from Seattle to the parking lot at Artist's Point. The sky was blue and the temperature was close to 80° F, all day long.
