Sandhill Crane

An article [link] about the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge [link] in Eastern Washington, where the Sandhill Crane could allegedly be seen during late March and early April piqued our interest this week, and we decided to give it a try. It looked like a cool place to visit, whether we saw the cranes or not. Nearby was Potholes State Park, [link] which gets its name from the geologic formations of the area. Shallow depressions created during the Pleistocene flooding are now lakes.

It's always interesting to see the East side of the mountains because the landscape is very different from that of the West. Unfortunately the lighting conditions were not the best, and that, plus *ahem* my experimenting with the new camera produced somewhat less than great photos. Here are a few anyway.
