Sandhill
Crane

An article [link]
about the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge [link]
in Eastern Washington, where the Sandhill Crane could allegedly
be seen during late March and early April piqued our interest this
week, and we decided to give it a try. It looked like a cool place
to visit, whether we saw the cranes or not. Nearby was Potholes
State Park, [link]
which gets its name from the geologic formations of the area. Shallow
depressions created during the Pleistocene flooding are now lakes.
It's always
interesting to see the East side of the mountains because the
landscape is very different from that of the West. Unfortunately
the lighting conditions were not the best, and that, plus *ahem*
my experimenting with the new camera produced somewhat less than
great photos. Here are a few anyway.
