Folklife is one of the biggest festivals of its kind in the country. Sunny skies on this Memorial Day weekend attracted many folk to the Seattle Center for the 30th annual Northwest Folklife Festival. There were almost as many unofficial performances as there were official ones - it seemed that very other person was carrying an instrument case - fiddlers, singers, accordionists, saxophonists, guitarists, drummers, pipers and many other musicians gave impromptu concerts, and I was surprised at how young many of the artists were. Jugglers, magicians, mimes and performance artists were in abundance as well.

Along with the music, there were arts and crafts, exhibits and films and a multi-cultural sampling of food. This year, the focus is on Korean-American communities. Tim and I took the bus to the Seattle Center on Saturday morning, and spent a very pleasant few hours wandering the grounds (crowds notwithstanding <grin>). I hope the photos will give you some idea of the sights and sounds at the Northwest Folklife Festival.
