A Drive In The Cascade Mountains

Surprise, surprise...it's Saturday and it's NOT raining! Despite the" high" clouds, we decided to set out for the Cascades for a day out in the fresh air. We headed north and east, and our first stop was at one of our favorite places, Four Top Mountain.

Four Top Mountain begins to poke through the clouds.

It looks as if the sky is finally going to clear.

This odd looking plant is Skunk Cabbage.

Red Breasted Sapsucker

Western Tanager

Steller's Jay
We saw these birds at Four Top Mountain, but were not quick enough to photograph them

We drove along Mountain Loop Road beside the Sauk River.

The water was rushing along, and very clear.

We ate lunch next to this old stump in which flowers were growing.

I couldn't resist taking a picture of the sign in the restroom there.

I took pictures of this deer through the car windshield, as he was very skittish. We think it was a mule deer, because of its very large ears.

Now for some mountain shots - they are totally awesome.

They seem to rise from nowhere.

This is not a good picture but Glacier Mountain is very difficult to see.

There were many waterfalls beside the road.

Tim spotted a trillium at one of our stops.

One final mountain - it turned into a lovely day.
