The weather on Labor Day weekend 2001 here in Washington didn't look too great, so we chose Sunday, September 2, the day with the least noxious forecast, as our day for exploring. We decided to go west this time, to the Olympic Mountains. Hurricane Ridge was to be our destination, but as we examined the map, we noticed Deer Lake Road - a small road leading up Blue Mountain. It wound westward seventeen miles into the Olympic range, and nearly 6,000 feet UP. It was well worth it. We then headed for Hurricane Ridge and were rewarded with more spectacular views.

Here are a few of our pictures. Please click on a thumbnail to see an enlargement.
