Seattle is a BIG city - over three million people and still growing. Like many large urban areas, it is composed of a number of delightful smaller areas, each with its own character. The names of these places are as varied as their styles...Wallingford, Fremont, Ballard, Green Lake, Queen Anne Hill and Magnolia, to name just a few.

When someone asks me where I am from, I say "Seattle - Greenwood area on Phinney Ridge" and if the person is a Seattleite, he knows exactly where I mean. Phinney Ridge is located in the area known as North Seattle. It's a quick bus ride from the downtown area, and the transit system here is superb. As you would deduce from the name, it is a ridge, and from the end of our driveway, facing north, we can look west to see the majestic Olympic Mountains, and look eastward to view the mighty Cascade Range. A short walk to the end of the block will allow us a look at Mount Rainier, off in the southeast, and Mount Baker, guarding the northeast.

Here's a glimpse into our neighborhood. All of the following photographs were taken within a block or two of our place. It is a very unpretentious area, full of friendly folks, small shops and businesses and it is a great place to live !
