Our
trip this year took us across Eastern Washington and Northern
Idaho to Northwestern Montana and Glacier National Park. The scenery
was fabulous and the heat was on. Temperatures around 100°F
with very low humidity can be very deceptive!

We left
Seattle early on Sunday, July 24th and drove northeast over
Stevens Pass, following Route 2. Grand
Coulee Dam was not far off the path so we took a small
detour to view it. Coeur
D'Alene, Idaho was our stop for the night and in the morning
we drove northeast. A short hike through the woods to Kootenai
Falls was a nice break, then we continued through Bonners
Ferry into Montana and decided to make Kalispell
our home for the next two nights as it was close to Glacier
National Park. |

Glacier
National Park was everything we thought it would be and more.
There was more traffic than we had bargained for too. Despite
this, we managed to see almost everything we'd hoped for (except
bears and elk and the official Continental Divide). It's difficult
to describe the grandeur, and pictures certainly do not do
it justice. |

Although
we left the Park a little earlier than we'd planned because
of the brutal heat, we meandered home through Idaho and
Eastern Washington, stopping at spots we'd read about. And
'though we loved our trip, we were both happy to cross Stevens
Pass and descend into the moist, cool air of Western Washington.
Aaaaahhhhh.
